Vennelygaard is in the northern part of Sjælland, in an area that has some of the most beautiful nature in the region. Lake Bastrup, moors, woods and a hilly landscape. The farm is on a small, private road in a very peaceful area, with a rich wildlife. Often deer can be seen in the adjoining lands. 

Although the farm is out in the country in beautiful nature the distance to the centre of Copenhagen is but 25 kilometers. Half an hour by car, bus connections every hour (line 334)  to the S-Train stations in either Farum or Stenløse (S-Train lines H and H+). Among recreational facilites in the area we can mention two 18 hole golf courses, top grade swimming-baths in Farum and Værløse and indeed a wide variety of cultural  and sporting facilities. You can even see the best soccer teams in Denmark play in Farum Park when FC Nordsjælland is playing at home. 

If you want to visit Roskilde to the west with its famous Cathedral – the burial place of Danish royalty, the Viking Museum by the fjord and in general a charming, old Danish city – well, 30-45 minutes by car and you are there.

If you want to see for example the famous castles in Hillerød – Frederiksborg Castle, Fredensbord – Fredensborg Castle and Helsingør – Elsinore Castle (Shakespeare – Hamlet) it is within an hours drive by car from Vennelygaard. As is also the art museum in Humlebæk – Louisiana.  

Vennelygaard thus is perfectly situated for whatever wish you may have – a trip to the capital Copenhagen with its museums, Tivoli, The Royal Theatre, The Opera (brandnew 2004), and much more.

Or peaceful bike / walking excursions in the area – libraries and tourist informations and indeed some S-Train stations have a wide variety of  excellent maps with biking- and walking routes, information folders etc.

You can bike around Lake Bastrup with its famous Bastrup Tower, remnants of the very old fortress that controlled the main road between Roskilde and Slangerup/Hillerød / Elsinore back in time. Nobody knows who built it, but prof. people are still trying to find out. If they do we will let you know.

You can go a bit further towards the east and bike or walk around Lake Farum, Lake Furesø and much much more – from Vennelygaard. The options are .. galore.
